Beet Greens and your Health

Beet greens have lots of nutrients, antioxidants and flavenoids.

Beet tops (greens) are one of the very intrinsically nutritious green leafy vegetables out there. The greens are very low in calories; 100 grams have only 22 calories. Still, they are one of the healthiest greens recommended in the diet for their limited calories, fat etc., but health benefiting vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants.

Beet greens are the best sources of B-carotene and lutein. These flavonoids have strong antioxidant properties. Beta-carotene can be converted into vitamin-A inside the body.

These greens are great vegetable sources of vitamin-K; 100 g provides 400 ug of this vitamin; that is about 300% of the RDA. Vitamin K has potential role in bone health by promoting bone formation and strengthening activity.

Beet leaves are also a good source of minerals like magnesium, copper, calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, manganese, and phosphorus.

Eat and be healthy.
