Artichokes are on the naughty list of foods that may upset people's stomachs. Most people have no problems whatsoever after eating artichokes but there are some who have difficulty tolerating it.
These people either have IBS, hypersensitivity to food or just for some reason or other have difficulty in digesting and processing artichokes after they are eaten.
The reason they are on the naughty list is because they are said to contain a certain type of carbohydrate, a type of sugar that can sometimes be very difficult for people to digest. Because it doesn't digest well it, (the sugar), stays in the intestine, attracts water and then causes your bowels to move quickly.
This is why eating artichokes can upset your stomach. Or at least is the most common reason why. Sometimes if people don't know how to eat an artichoke properly they might get stomach upset because they have eaten very hard, fibrous parts of the artichoke and they are sitting in the digestive system when they are not supposed to be there.
Other than that artichokes are delicious food, unhealthy food and one that's enjoyed by lots of people around the world every single day.
Hope this was helpful.
