Can Artichokes cause Allergic Reactions?

Artichokes may but the Chances are Low

Any food out there has the possibility of causing an allergic reaction. So the question can be asked of every single food, and the answer will always be yes. The real question is how likely are they to cause an allergic reaction?

Artichokes are fortunately on the list of those foods that are not very likely to cause a true anaphylactic reaction in people. Very few people have reacted to it when exposed to artichokes for long periods of time.

Eating artichokes can result in some unpleasant side effects in people like an upset stomach or unpleasant bowel symptoms. So if that's what people mean by an allergic reaction then it may cause one as there are many people who are sensitive to certain vegetables like artichokes, broccoli, cabbage etc.

For those who don't know how to eat an artichoke properly, they may experience a lot of discomfort due to eating the wrong parts of the artichoke. Think of a person eating bark and how they would feel afterward. Or eating a banana peel by mistake. The same is true of an artichoke. There are parts you can eat and there are parts you can't.

As for a true allergic reaction to artichokes where you need to be rushed to the hospital, the answer is it's very unlikely. But if you're sensitive to certain types of vegetables then you may get a reaction if you eat artichokes.

Hope this was helpful.
